| Meditation - Sunday's at 7PM |
|
Over the years many techniques to aid in the journey toward meditation have evolved. In this class we will explore a variety of these techniques such as guided visualization, mantra repetition, yoga nidra, tratak, music contemplation, and many others. The aim of the class is to gain concentration (Dharana) and fall gently into stillness (Dhyana), helping to establish a lifelong practice that will bring a clarity and fullness to each moment of living. As we learn to sit quietly, the sound of our heartstrings can be heard with crystalline exuberance, and our ability to explore the inner universe becomes limitless.
Dhyana is the seventh limb of Raja Yoga more commonly known as meditation. It encompasses the heart of a deep internal practice. Traditionally all the limbs of yoga support the development of a one pointed mind allowing us to sit deep in stillness. Just as one falls into sleep, meditation is something we fall into. When we begin to practice meditation we usually spend most of our time in concentration or Dharana, the sixth limb of Raja Yoga. Meditation comes when we slip past concentration and discover the surprising and wondrous inner stillness.
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing for sitting and gentle asana. Any extra blankets or cushions to aid in your comfort are also recommended. Also, bring an open mind and prepare to embrace it.
