Yin Yoga is a wonderful compliment to more "Yang" styles of yoga..
Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues – the ligaments, bones, and even the joints of the body – that are normally not exercised. Yin emphasizes deep release in the body and stillness in the mind through long, passive holds. Many of the places we keep tension in our bodies are protected by our more flexible muscles, making it quite difficult to find more openness. With Yin we can access deeper parts of our body and mind. This quiet and contemplative form of yoga prepares the practitioner for deeper meditative practices. During a Yin practice you may want to have a long-sleeved shirt and socks if you are prone to being chilly.
The Yang Yoga portion of the class will focus on moving out anything that has been released during the Yin practice. Sequences will concentrate on muscles around the connective tissue we have stretched in order to notice any new openness and provide a rinse of those areas. We will move with our own breath from one asana to the next working towards a moving meditation in a slow (but challenging) flow. During Yang we will build heat in the body through movement, but aim to keep our mind still.
We have both Yin-Only on Monday evenings at 6PM and a Yin/Yang class Friday’s at 6:30PM incorporating both styles so your body can enjoy a complete rejuvenation
