I had just returned from living quietly overseas and was overwhelmed by the constant stimulation in the US. Heading to a gym with blaring music, infinite TVs, and hundreds of people seemed daunting, so I wandered down the street and found a small yoga studio. I was still flexible from my days as a gymnast and thought I would be really good at yoga. However, I quickly realized that there was so much more to yoga than being able to do the pretzel poses. I learned I didn’t need to compete with person next to me to have a “better” pose or hold a position longer – it could just be me and my mat.

My teaching varies from quiet and contemplative yin to spirited vinyasa sequences and everything in between. I think it is important not only to challenge yourself during your practice, but to have fun and not take yourself too seriously. During each class I strive to help my students learn something about themselves. No matter how small, inner awareness is such a gift. I owe my love of yoga to Soni Anderson and Michelle Fleming to whom I’ll be eternally grateful and hope to honor with my own practice.
