I love teaching yoga!! I am a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), registered with The Yoga Alliance at the 200 hr level, who has been teaching yoga for three years and practicing for ten. Since completing my teacher training I have maintained my daily yoga practice and regularly attend yoga workshops with senior teachers; some that have been the most influential to my teaching have been: Seane Corn, Shiva Rea, and Natasha Rizopoulos.
I see the yoga mat as a place of sanctuary from the demands of everyday life, and emphasize the benefits that can be found in taking time out of one’s day to connect to the breath. I first came to yoga at a time in my life where I was under a great deal of stress. I noticed that a co worker of mine seemed to appear happy, calm, and balanced even when presented with difficult or overwhelming tasks. This was a foreign concept to me so I asked her the secret to her peaceful state of mind. The answer she said was simple “I practice yoga”. So I took a chance and went to a class. It was love at first savasana (relaxation pose). The three to four minutes I spent in savasana that first night allowed me to truly relax and enjoy several moments of peace; needless to say I was hooked.
I enjoy teaching various kinds of yoga from a challenging, strength building, vinyasa-style class that incorporates classical Ashtanga yoga principles to a gentle restorative yoga which focuses on relaxing the body in restful postures. I strive to help my students find balance, strength, and peace both on and off their yoga mats. I view yoga as a path to wellness not athletic accomplishment. I believe that one can begin their yoga journey at any age and any level of physical health. Simply put, yoga is the greatest system of health ever developed.
